Reading Magazine CRAP while Hiding in the Crapper or…Why Blake Lively’s DREAMS are Not MINE (You decide which title)

There is a beauty magazine that somehow just started showing up in my mailbox. Seriously I never subscribed to it but one day there it was. Usually I just toss it aside because to be honest looking at pictures of half-naked gorgeous 20 something year olds does nothing for my self-esteem.  But a lead on the front cover caught my attention and caused me to do exactly what it was intended to do… read on.  The glossy cover had a stunning picture of Blake Lively with a tag line that read: “LIVING HER DREAMS- On 2 Hours and 9 Minutes of Sleep.” After fixing the kids breakfast, doing the dishes, throwing in a load of laundry, answering a few must be answered now work emails […]

Reflection Leads us to the truth…

It has been so long since I blogged here. WAY to long. I could make excuses, lots of them like how busy I have been, which granted I have. I could say I had nothing to blog about, but we all know that is a lie! I could just skip  any explanation to you and just write a post… but somehow that does not seem right. You see it would not just be you I would not be explaining why I have been MIA, but also myself! So instead, I will come clean with a recent discovery as to why I think I have not blogged in so long. I MISS my dad! I have not blogged in so long because I think I  just […]

Thanks for the reminder…

I could easily start off by giving excuses as to why I have not blogged in so long. They would all be valid reasons to: too busy, too tired, too everything. It is much easier to just add a little Facebook status or 145 character tweets. Short little updates that let you know I am alive but don’t give too much clue as to the real person behind the words. But this, this blog is personal… my online diary that allows access to anyone with a mouse and connection to turn the key and unlock my deepest fears, and hopes. Yet I do it because well… I am crazy?Yeah that too… but because if one person finds this, reads this and knows that they are not […]

In Honor of me Reaching 2,000 likes on my FACEBOOK page a special Book #GIVEAWAY of “Homework- A Parent’s Guide to Helping Out without Freaking Out”

I am so excited. I have been waiting for my LIKES to hit 2,000 to tell you about this book, about Neil McNerney and to GIVEAWAY not 1 but 2 copies! The day is finally here. Why am I so excited… because this book is going to change HOMEWORK time in your house. I am not kidding. I say this because it happened in our house! Okay let’s get right to it. This book is different than any other book I have ever read. It is quick and easy to read, Neil’s sense of humor just pops out and every chapter ends with a summary and Don’t Freak Out exercises to try. It got me rethinking the way I parent, not just at homework time. […]

Last week, my new friend Neil McNerney tagged me in a fantastic project called The Next Big Thing Online Event. The Next Big Thing is a way for authors and bloggers to share the news about their most exciting upcoming projects. The goal is to share information about a big project, and then share the love by paying it forward to a few other authors and bloggers. Please take a minute to look at the end of this post to see the incredible and diverse group of folks  I invited to play along.  All of them are doing some great things. Also check out Neil’s  Next Big Thing… if you have a student you want to make sure to check out what Neil is up […]

“ELF You” Neighbors!!!

My kids and I had an adventure last night. It all started when Grace noticed that there seems to be a lack of Holiday Spirit in our area this year. We thought ELFing them might help. Many of you might have been BOO’d during Halloween… Elfing is the same thing. Some folks call it being Jingled but we decided being an ELF would be more fun. Besides it was an excuse for Jay to run around saying “ELF YOU” and then crack up hysterically!(Okay I admit I laughed too! Especially when the one time he asked if he could as a joke do the middle finger and in shock over the idea that he actually knew what the middle finger was and that it actually […]

All We Can Hope For

Something happened that I cannot tell you about because it is not my story to share. But the actual details really don’t matter to this post anyway. This post is not about What Happened, it is about the way my baby girl CHOSE to react  when it did. As a mom you do what you can to instill values and teach your kids right from wrong. We talk, we preach, we role model, we share. And then you send your kids out there into the world and HOPE that they do what is right. When they falter, and they will falter cause we all do, you pick them up dust them off and reevaluate what went wrong. And then once again we  teach, we preach, […]

I will wait cause well… it is that important that you watch it! Go on… I promise you it is worth it! As a woman who well is […]

Remembering 911 and teaching our kids who weren’t there or were too young to remember about it!

NOTE: The following was originally posted last year here on Mama’s Turn Now. Today I gave my children red, white and blue sprinkled donuts… a huge treat! As they looked at the sugary goodness on their plate they were confused. Mom they said, “Today is not a holiday to celebrate!” Jay said to me. And I shook my head and said, “You are correct… it is a day to remember! I wanted you to remember that… thus the sugary donut!” Today they ate their donuts in quiet. God Bless our country and all those that fight to keep us safe! While walking my son home from school on Friday I asked him if they mentioned why in school that the flag was at half mast. […]

My head hurts from beating myself up over the way I handled a situation…

I am my own worst critic. I judge myself the harshest. This is what I tell myself… but I am thinking that might not be true. I may be my daughter’s worst critic and judge her the harshest and I am so ashamed to admit this. There was an incident this morning. A fashion crisis that was so stupid and over the top and well I did not do anything to help the situation. I escalated it with I TOLD YOU SOs and should have’s and shouldn’t halves. I raised my voice and spoke too sternly. I cared too much about what other people would think instead of my own daughter! And I have been beating myself up about it all morning and quite honestly […]
