Twas the Second Week of Summer…

Twas the second week of summer

And all through the house,

Every creature was stirring

Mom, both kids and her spouse.

 Wet towels were lying

On the floor without care

With hopes that the Laundry Fairy

Would soon see them there.

And I in my tank top,

Pony tail and baseball cap,

Wishfully dreaming the kids

Would just take a nap!

 When suddenly from the top

of the stairs I did hear

Yelling and screaming,

A gasp and then tears.

 I dashed up the stairs

To see what was a wry,

And what they had done now

That had made them both cry.

 When what to my wondering

Eye I did see?

A pile of toys about

As high as my knee.

 Every book off the shelf

Every doll and dinosaur,

Craft beads and feathers

Sprawled across the playroom floor.

 “What happened?” I shouted.

“Just look at this mess!”

My boy calmly replied,

“I was looking for my DS.”

I could feel my blood pressure rising

I was starting to drool,

And I finally snapped when my daughter added,

“I’m bored; can we go to the pool?”

Steam spouted from my ears

My face turned three shades of red,

And all I could think was

Whoever made school last only 9 months

Should be stricken dead!

67 more days to go

Followed by 67 more nights

Filled whining, complaining,

Arguing and fights!

With no time for Facebook, or blogging

Or just to sit and think;

Is enough to drive a

Mama like me to drink!

  1. Haha, love it!

    Clink!!

  2. BRILLIANT!!

  3. For me it’s not the kids, it’s the husband. Joe’s a SAHD, and I’m a teacher, so we’re in the house together all…day…long. Grrrr.

  4. Oh dear, thank you for the laugh. This hits home with me. I want to make a countdown calendar until school starts back up again, but that makes me feel a bit guilty :)

I haven’t worked in two weeks, my house is a wreck, I too live in tank tops and pony tails. On my good days, I get a chance to brush my hair and check my email before 9pm. I have lost faith in the laundry fairy.

Today marks two months until the beginning of the next school year. Two very long, whiny, arguing, wet bathing suit filled months. Until then, I cast longing glances at my dusty writing corner.

Hi, I am grandma of an 11 yr old boy with Asperger’s. I am impressed with your blog sight and have enjoyed reading some of the comments of others. My guy has two younger brothers. He has a hard time with other kids, is often made fun of. He prefers to be alone at home. He is a sweet, funny kid andmy heart aches for him. I am going to share your blog with my daughter and hubby. I am sure there are some answers, encouragement for them here. Thank you, Diane
